Minister Burton Welcomes Launch of University Partnership
Joan Burton TD, Minister for Social Protection TD, today (26 June) welcomed the launch by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD of a partnership between NUI Maynooth, Dublin City University and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
The launch at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin marks a major collaboration between NUIM, DCU and RCSI. The partnership builds on the success of collaborative work between the institutions over the last two years.
The new partnership, known as 3U, will see significant developments in complementary research areas like global health, biotechnology and the teaching of sciences.
“This is a key initiative to enhance the research capability ofIrelandin these key areas. It also represents a wonderful opportunity for Irish students and international students in the Greater Dublin region,’’ Minister Burton said.
“I believe this will enrich the opportunities available to our students by developing a range of joint degree programmes as well as broadening their choice of options,’’ the Minister added.
“I would like to commend Professor Cathal Kelly, CEO of the Royal College of Surgeons inIreland, Professor Brian McCraith, President of Dublin City University and Professor Philip Nolan, President of NUI Maynooth for this ambitious initiative. They are setting a wonderful example of working together to enhance their universities’ combined contribution toIreland’s social and economic recovery.’’
