Minister Burton Approves Funding To Raise Public Awareness For UN International Day For The Eradication Of Poverty

Funding Approved For 12 Community Groups
 

 
The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton TD today (26th June) approved funding of €30,000 to twelve community groups to support a public awareness initiative to promote the 17th October 2012 as the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. 
 
The Annual United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is a day to express friendship and solidarity with people who have to live with poverty and social exclusion every day of the year, in Ireland, Europe and around the world.
 
Speaking today, Minister Burton said: “I am delighted to make this funding available to the twelve community groups around the country to help raise awareness of poverty and social exclusion through their work. All of these groups have planned very interesting and thoughtful projects to mark the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.”
 

The following projects were approved for funding today:
 
Tallaght Travellers Youth Service, Dublin 24 €2,600
ATD Fourth World, Dublin 1 €3,000
North West Simon Community, Letterkenny, Co.Donegal (activity will cover Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo) €1,500
Moy Valley Resources IRD, Ballina, Co. Mayo €2,200
Hillview Community  Resource Centre, Ballinteer, Dublin 16 €2,650
SAOL Project, Amiens St., Dublin 1 €2,600
Smashing Times Theatre Company, Coleraine Street, Dublin 7 €2,600
Mayo Intercultural Action, Castlebar, Co. Mayo €2,600
Aonad Family Resource Centre,  Ballygar, Co. Galway   €2,150
Children’s Group Link, Military Road, Waterford City   €2,500
EAPN Ireland   €2,600
Arden Family Resource Centre, Tullamore, Co. Offaly   €2,500
