Achievements

  • We’ve rescued Ireland from the worst economic crisis it has ever known, and brought about a recovery that has seen us become the fastest-growing economy in the EU.
  • We’ve added more than 100,000 new jobs since taking office, and unemployment is down to single digits again. And we’re creating more opportunities for people to move from welfare to work.
  • We’re providing free GP care for children under 6, and will extend it to over-70s as the next step.
  • We’ve maintained our welfare safety net through difficult times, protecting the weekly pension and other core welfare rates when others in Europe were slashing theirs.
  • We fought to secure, and then fought to win, the marriage equality referendum. And we legislated for the X case.
  • We’ve secured agreement on collective bargaining to protect and enhance workers’ rights – because industrial peace is central to renewed prosperity.
  • Our primary schools have now achieved the best reading and maths results in 30 years, and we’re continuing to invest in modern new school buildings.
  • We have secured a record €4 billion investment package for social housing.
  • We’re working to deliver high-speed broadband to every part of the country
  • We’ve introduced ground-breaking legislation to protect whistle-blowers, regulate lobbyists and enhance Freedom of Information – all vital measures to make our politics more transparent.
