Tánaiste and Labour TD for Dublin West, Joan Burton, was on hand to officially open a major new extension at Castleknock Community College today. The project, costing €3.5million, saw the school receive a brand new sports hall with changing rooms, ten new classrooms and a number of additional rooms and facilities.
Speaking at the school’s new building, the Tánaiste said: “The new sports hall looks really wonderful. It’s been fitted out with a whole range of equipment for PE, fitness and the different sports. Today is a really exciting and positive day for the whole school community in Castleknock Community College.
“I was very pleased to work with parents, teachers, the Board of Management and the wider community to make this project a reality. It must be a great source of pride to all involved to see the new building up and running.
“My former colleague, the late Councillor Peggy Hamill, was a constant campaigner for the school, and she would be delighted to see this day.
“As a Government this is a central part of our mission, to stand up for our children’s future by investing in new school buildings, and to reduce class sizes to the smallest possible levels.
“Thanks to the economic recovery we have the opportunity and the resources to continue and progress our work on this front.”
