Now that the decision has been taken in principle by Bohemians to sell their stadium in Dalymount to the developer Andorey Developments Limited, it is extremely important that residents of Dublin 15 are informed in full about the details of the proposal.
“There are many hard questions about the effect this development will have on the local community that must be answered by the developers” said Deputy Burton
“As local residents know, the road infrastructure on the Luttrelstown road at this point is exceptionally poor with very little road signage, car parking and no foot paths so not only is it difficult for cars, it is extremely dangerous for pedestrians.”
“Public transport is non existent on this road, while the only other public transport available in the area is the train to Coolmine railway station, about 15-20 minutes walk away and the 37 bus which passes through Carpenterstown and Luttrelstown. This implies that many fans will travel to the grounds by car, however with only 250 car parking spaces residents want to know what will happen to overspill traffic on big match days.”
“While many soccer fans would be delighted to see an Eircom League of Ireland team, particularly Bohemians, relocate to Dublin West, I strongly believe that the club should engage in immediate discussions with the community to explain their ideas and answer any legitimate concerns local people may have.”
“If there is such a dialogue these concerns may be answered but the club must recognise that there are traffic and other worries which must be addressed before the proposal can be advanced any further.
“I also want to know if the Taoiseach who is TD for the Dalymount area has been consulted about the possible use of state owned lands Abbotstown as an alternative location.
“I suggest that the officers of Bohemians seek an immediate meeting with local committees and representatives before any further move are made on this idea.”
Local people are keenly aware of the difficulty of getting land in Dublin 15 for public uses such as schools and amenity purposes. The Diswellstown location is one of the areas earmarked for potential further school development aswell as residential development. There needs to be a full discussion on these lands in the interests of all the residents of the area including Boh’s fans.
