BURTON CALLS FOR URGENT CLARIFICATION OF TEMPORARY ACCOMODATION PLANS FOR ELDERLY PATIENTS IN CONNOLLY HOSPITAL

In reply to a recent Parliamentary Question, the HSE told Deputy Burton that:

“Contingency plans are being drawn up to make alternative arrangements for patients in units 1 and 3 in the event of this work not being completed by the 1st of January 2007”

The HSE have allocated funding of €7.8 million to Connolly Hospital for the refurbishment of Surgical Block A, B and C, which on completion will accommodate the Department of Medicine for the Elderly. Deputy Burton said that the approval of funding was very welcome after 7 years of promises.

The lands on which the Department for the Elderly are currently located were sold to a developer in 1999 and are to be handed over on the 1st of January, 2007.
