Children’s Health Ireland at Connolly

A new paediatric outpatient and urgent care centre for Blanchardstown has started treating patients as of 31 July 2019, serving Dublin North City, North County and surrounding areas. It is part of the new model of care for children’s health services in Ireland providing care as close to the patient’s home as is clinically appropriate.

The new centre will provide fast, convenient, quality care, in a new state of the art facility on the grounds of Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. The range of services to be provided include urgent care for the treatment of minor injury and illness that requires prompt treatment but is not life-threatening and does not require a visit to the Emergency Department (ED). It is staffed by specialist paediatric staff, including nurses, doctors and health care professionals.

Some examples of minor injuries and minor illnesses that will be treated and will not be treated:

Will be treated:

  • Sprains, strains, and broken bones
  • Vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Fever in babies older than 12 weeks
  • Small cuts and injuries
  • Mild asthma

Will not be treated:

  • Serious head, back and neck injuries
  • Severe stomach or chest pain
  • Severe burns
  • Fever in babies less than 12 weeks old
  • Seizures
  • Severe trouble breathing
  • Mental health concerns

If the situation is an emergency and your child needs immediate care, dial 999/112 to call an ambulance or go to your nearest Emergency Department (ED).

IS THERE A CHARGE TO ATTEND THE URGENT CARE CENTRE?

The Urgent Care Centre is a walk-in service. The Government Levy of €100 will apply.

WHAT ARE THE OPENING HOURS OF THE URGENT CARE CENTRE?

Initial opening is 10am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.

WHAT OUTPATIENT CLINICS WILL BE THERE?

The Outpatient Department will initially open on a phased basis and includes two specialities:

  • General Paediatrics (general clinics, condition specific clinics, rapid access clinic and GP hotline)
  • Trauma Orthopaedics (fracture clinic)

WHAT ARE THE OPENING HOURS OF THE OUTPATIENT CLINICS?

Outpatient services will be delivered from Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm by appointment.
