DUBLIN 15 CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM LABOUR’S CHILDCARE PLAN

Working parents in Dublin 15 will potentially benefit from Labour’s plan to introduce a €2 per hour childcare system, Tánaiste Joan Burton has said.

It follows the publication of the Labour Party’s childcare proposals.

Joan Burton said the changes will mean that families in Dublin 15 will have a little more money in their pocket at the end of each month.

“As the economy recovers, Labour will stand up for working families by investing in a national childcare scheme.

“Parents will be able to access subsidised childcare for all children under the age of 12 – covering pre-school children as well as after school care.

“By 2021, the cost to parents will be €2 per hour, for up to 40 hours per week. Our approach will save parents thousands each year.
“We can afford to do this because we’ve ensured the economy is in a much better state than when we took over from Fianna Fail.

“We are basing our plans on the forecasts of the Department of Finance, which are conservative. So on that basis the measures which we are looking to introduce are both affordable and responsible.”
