St Mochta’s in Clonsilla is among six Dublin 15 schools that have made the list for the major new five-year school building programme. The news was announced by Joan with Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan today at a launch in Scoil Bhride in Blanchardstown.
It means that these schools, as well as a further six in Dublin 7, are now guaranteed funding to proceed with major building projects, many involving entirely new schools.

Joan commented: “Among the Dublin West schools, St Mochta’s can now proceed with construction of a new building, Luttrellstown Community College will proceed to the next phase of construction, St. Patrick’s Junior and Senior schools in Corduff will build new schools, Le Chéile in Tyrellstown is this week going ahead with work on their new school, and Mary Help of Christians on Navan Road has received funding for a new build.
“I have spoken with Maria Farrell, St Mochta’s principal, and Tony Rock, chair of the Board, to inform them that St Mochta’s is to be totally rebuilt, with the project to proceed to construction in 2016.
“Parents, pupils and staff at St Mochta’s have had a long campaign to get a new school, and the plans were met with unforeseen delays. Now it should be possible to move rapidly towards construction work.
“I am also delighted that Luttrellstown Community College can proceed to expand in order to serve such a rapidly growing neighbourhood.
“In addition, construction is getting underway this week at a new school for Le Cheile in Tyrellstown, after a long wait for parents and school management.
“Dublin 15 has done very well in the provision of new schools these past few years, and today’s list is confirmation that this will continue, as the area expands more with a growing population.
“As Tánaiste and Labour Leader I am fully committed to continuing to invest in our education system.
“Despite the obvious financial challenges of the last few years, Labour in Government have delivered the largest ever school investment programme in the history of the State, and I’m delighted that Dublin West continues to benefit from that.”
