Joan Burton, welcomed the announcement that Castleknock Community Centre will receive funding of €50,000, to establish a Youth Cafe. This is part of a €1.5million in capital funding for the provision of 30 new Youth Cafés in communities across the country made by Minister Frances Fitzgerald TD.

This funding brings the total investment in new Youth Cafés under this Government to €2.2 million since 2011.

Joan said “I have had the opportunity to visit a a number of Youth Cafés across the country. I have seen at first hand how these facilities can offer a safe, alcohol free, environment for young people to enjoy. I have also been greatly impressed at the innovative partnership approach taken by many community groups in developing youth cafes. Offering information and services to young people on key youth issues such as employment support and positive mental health.

“The funding announcement today demonstrates this Government’s commitment to investing in even more Youth Cafés in more communities nationwide.”
