Tánaiste and Labour TD for Dublin West, Joan Burton, has announced a total of €12.9m to build or acquire 69 social housing units in Fngal County. The allocation is part of a package of funding outlined today by Environment Minister, Alan Kelly.
Joan Burton said: “The investment will be given to Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) to assist those with specific needs such as elderly people, persons with intellectual or physical disability and homeless persons. The newly acquired units will come on stream for people with a housing need this year while the newly constructed units will be completed by 2017.”
In Dublin 15, construction will begin on 22 units for Clúid Housing Association at Church St / Ladyswell Road in Mulhuddart at a cost of over €3.8million.
Across Fingal County, 28 units are being acquired for a range of AHBs, including Focus Ireland, the Irish Wheelchair Association, and Respond!. Specific locations for these acquisitions will be published in the near future.
Joan Burton said: “I am delighted to see this further progress in delivering on the Government’s social housing commitments, which will provide homes for people in Dublin 15 and Dublin 7. It is part of a wider package of major investment in social housing that the Labour Party is bringing forward as a key priority. The economic recovery has allowed us deliver on our aim of a social recovery, providing new housing, health and education facilities in Dublin 15.
“Approved Housing Bodies have an important role to play in delivering new housing, and they now have important targets to deliver to meet important special housing needs, in Mulhuddart and across Fingal County.
“I particularly look forward to see construction beginning on the Mulhuddart project in the near future.”
