This morning I appeared on Newstalk Breakfast and spoke on getting the conversation started about getting more people out of their cars and onto public transport. I believe we should start by persuading Ministers, TDs and high-level public civil servants to start using public transport, and hopefully this would increase the awareness of what public transport is really like amoungst Ireland’s key decision makers.
The fact is, at the moment our trains are packed to capacity, our buses are packed to capacity, and the Luas lines are packed to capacity. The Government needs to improve our public transport and should begin by electrifying the trains, particularly the train going from Connolly to Maynooth and going through Blanchardstown, they should develop more Luas lines to places like Lucan, and they should provide more buses. I believe we need to make switching to public transport a public conversation and see if there are ways for all of us, starting with Government Ministers and TDs, to change our habits and get onto public transport to help reduce emissions.
