An Advocate for Equality

All through her political life before and during her time in the Dáil and as a Minister, Joan has been an advocate for the equal employment and economic rights of women & working families.

She has promoted an Equal Opportunity Agenda in the workplace so that every working woman can remain in the workforce and earn her full economic potential. This agenda includes providing paid family & medical leave, raising the minimum wage, making quality child care affordable, creating universal early childhood education and promoting equal pay for equal work.

Joan has long been a dedicated supporter of senior citizens, protecting and improving access to free public transport, working to lower the cost of prescription drugs, make long-term care more affordable so older people can remain independent for as long as they are able.
