Responding to Joan Burton’s queries about delays on the Maynooth line services on Monday morning, an Irish Rail representative said:
“Apologies for the impact of delayed services on commuters this morning
The source of the delay was an incident at Reilly level crossing in
Cabra. A motorist drove aggressively through the crossing when our gate
keeper was attempting to close it. He was almost struck by the car and
we then had to wait to get other staff in place to support in the
operation of the crossing.
The Gardai attended the crossing and took a report on the incident.
Hopefully we will not have a repeat of such an incident and we expect
that services will operate as scheduled this evening and tomorrow
morning.
We directed staff at each of the stations to make announcements about
the delays and I know that this was done at some of the stations. I
take you suggestion that the announcements may have not been made as
frequently or as clearly as they should have been and we will take this
up with station colleagues along the line”
