Deputy Joan Burton has reacted with anger to the revelation that a permanent site for the Castaheany Educate Together School has still not been acquired. Minister for Education Mary Hanafin made the revelation in response to a parliamentary question posed to her by Deputy Burton.
Deputy Burton stated:
‘The Minister for Education’s response simply confirmed that this government is not looking out for the best interests of the people of Dublin West. We are now staring the start of the next school year in the face, and there are no signs of the necessary infrastructure being put in place.
Castaheany Educate Together School will be forced to use temporary accommodation, with no indication given as to when a permanent site will be acquired for the school. The Minister also refused to divulge the cost of a permanent site or indeed what is holding matters up. This is simply not good enough.
To compound matters, the general schools crisis in Dublin West means that many parents are still in limbo as to whether their child will get any school place this September. It is my belief that this government is completely incapable of addressing the schools crisis in Dublin West.”
