Deputy Joan Burton has called for urgent action by Fingal County Council to address traffic chaos in Carpenterstown following the late commencement of road works for traffic calming on the Carpentersown road between the roundabouts near Fernleigh and Coolmine Road. Numerous residents were caught in traffic chaos in the Carpenterstown area this week added to by the fact that local schools have reopened.
Deputy Joan Burton said “I contacted Fingal County Council, Transportation Department for an explanation and was told that the Riverwood Road has not yet been taken in charge by the Council. The reason the road is closed is that part of the condition of Castlethorn’s planning permission is to provide traffic calming along this road. Castlethorn is constructing three sets of ‘Speed Cushions’ a ‘Pelican’ Crossing and a Roundabout at the junction with Riverwood Dene. This work will not be completed until the end of November. This will cause huge difficulty for many local people.
It is outrageous that this work was not done over the summer when the roads are less busy. The Council Management advised me that this is because of Planning delays. I am currently pressing the Council that the schedule for the completion of the work should be brought forward.”
